Wade Johnson was born on a Nauga farm in
Hanna Barbera, California. He
worked
his way through ROTC selling Nauga hides. He knew he wanted to be a
drummer
the first time he rubbed two sticks together at Indian Guide camp. With
the
help of family members he collected enough Folger's Coffee cans and
garbage
pail lids to build his first drum set at the age of 11. Using drum
sticks
that he fashioned out of moose antlers he began his exciting and
rewarding
musical journey. He graduated with honors from Hugo State University in
Hugo, OK. Nobody seems to remember when, check the yearbook. Hugo State
is
the home of the "Fighting Numbnuts" Wade spent his last year
as the school
mascot. Wade has the distinction of being the very first Johnson to
stand at
attention at the cheerleader tryouts.
Splitting his time between college, drumming, commanding the Navy Seals,
and
movie directing, was quite a load. (Quite a load indeed). However, he
did
find time to sink a Japanese submarine in WWII, and to win the Academy
Award
as Best Director for "Lawrence of Arabia".
Wade's trademark is to take his drumsticks out into the audience and
actually PLAY THE TABLES. That is, it was his trademark until that ugly
incident on Airport Freeway in 1999.
Wade love's to golf. In the mid 90's he not only won the U.S. AND
British
Opens, but finished 3rd at the annual Rolling Hills Country Club
invitational.
Wade joined the Party Crashers in the mid 80's, and he has enjoyed every
minute. Well, that's not entirely true, but most minutes have been
reasonably pleasant.
He also plays in a Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young tribute band called
4 Way
Street. it's called that because of Wade's love of golf. He's always
yelling
things like "FORE!" "get out of the WAY!" "I
hit it into the STREET!" It
just seemed appropriate.
Wade will be playing the drums as long as he's still able to find his
beater. In fact, he has a bumper sticker that reads "You'll get my
drums
when you pry my cold, dead hands off the sticks".
